NRI nuke scientist opposes Jet Airways

The Jet India controversy seems to be really getting murkier every passing day.

An Indo-American nuclear scientist – also claiming to be a global terrorism analyst – has written to the US Transportation Secretary, Norman Y Mineta, urging not to grant “foreign air carrier permit” to the Jet Airways India to operate its flight to America.

“There is every reason to believe that the Jet Airways of India has indeed been funded by jihadis,” the New York-based nuclear scientist, Moorthy Muthuswamy, said in his letter written to Mineta early this week.

He is also one of the 10 directors of the New York-based “think tank” Indian American Intellectuals Forum.

However, Muthuswamy – who originally comes from South India and did his graduation from the prestigious BITS Pilani in Rajasthan before moving to the US – did not divulge any further information to substantiate his serious allegations against Jet Airways India.

He only offered his expertise in this field if required by the Department of Transportation. “Let me know, if I can be of further assistance,” he said.

Muthuswamy further alleged, in his letter to Mineta, that the Jet Airways India had a very high proportion of Muslims as its employees.

“I suspect it is well over 50 per cent. (In India Muslims constitutes only 14 per cent of the population and have the highest illiteracy rates). This statistics is clear giveaway, perhaps confirming its jihadi connections,” Muthuswamy alleged.

Muthuswamy, who over the past six years has written a series of articles on terrorism in particular Islamic jihad and those related to the Indian sub-continent, however, clarified that he had no connection either at present or in the past with the Jet Airways Inc.

It is the Jet Airways Inc, which was the first to raise serious allegations against Jet India and objected to its entry into the American airspace alleging that it had links with global terrorist network.

In response the Jet Airways India has not only refuted the charges but also announced its decision to initiate legal defamatory proceedings against the Jet Airways Inc.

“Now I am an American citizen and it is my foremost duty to alert my Government as I believe this is a very serious issue and might be a potential threat to the US security,” Muthuswamy told The HindustanTimes.com.

Clarifying that he was not against Muslims and their employment by any organization, he said what raised his suspicion that the Jet India had fairly high proportion of Muslims as its employees. “It would be very interesting to study the ratio of Muslims at its lower and middle level,” he said.

One of his latest articles includes religious discrimination by minority institutions in India. He claims to have more than 30 publications on terrorism related issues.
