Geneva Summit: Ghani, US reps to discuss bilateral issues

The Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale will lead a US delegation at the Geneva Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan, during which they will meet President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, according to an official announcement.

In Geneva, Hale would be joined by the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of South and Central Asia Affairs Alice Wells and Ambassador to Afghanistan John Bass.

To be attended by President Ghani, the Geneva Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan would review Afghanistan’s progress in the common effort to attain lasting peace and prosperity for the people of Afghanistan.

The three top US diplomats would meet Ghani and Abdullah on the margins of the conference to discuss a wide range of bilateral issues.

Wells will also meet with a range of leading donor nations and partners in US military effort, as well as with members of Afghanistan’s civil society, the State Department said.

Later this week, Wells would travel to Brussels to meet with European Union counterparts to discuss the Indo-Pacific strategy as well as mutual efforts in Afghanistan and South Asia.

She will also meet with media representatives at the Brussels Regional Media Hub to discuss the Geneva Conference, and its key outcomes, said the State Department.
