GF landfill increases dumping charges

The tipping charge to dispose solid waste at the Grand Forks landfill is being increased by 75 cents per ton beginning Jan. 1.

The current rate is $32.75 per ton. The increase is being made because of increases in operational costs, according to Grand Forks Public Works. The increase was approved by the City Council to cover increases in fuel prices, wages and other costs. The last increase took effect Jan. 1 of this year.

The city has notified the communities in North Dakota and Minnesota that dump their garbage in the Grand Forks landfill so they can make budgetary adjustments for next year.

The North Dakota communities that use the Grand Forks landfill are Ardoch, Grand Forks Air Force Base, Buxton, Cavalier, Devils Lake, Drayton, Emerado, Forest River, Gilby, Grafton, Hatton, Hillsboro, Hope, Inkster, Kempton, Lakota, Lamoine, Langdon, Larimore, Manvel, Mayville, Mekinock, Neche, Northwood, Park River, Reynolds, Rolla, Thompson and Warsaw.

Minnesota communities are Alvarado, Argyle, Crookston, East Grand Forks, Middle River, Thief River Falls, Warren and Pennington County.
