Obama, Biden say Romney has no exit plan

US President Barack Obama and his deputy Joe Biden on Sunday lashed out at Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential candidate, alleging he has no exit plan from Afghanistan.

“We are bringing our troops home from Afghanistan. I’ve set a timetable. We will have them all out of there by 2014. Governor Romney doesn’t have a timetable. I think he’s wrong. That’s what’s at stake in this election,” Obama said during a campaign speech in Colorado.

Obama was referring to Romney’s speech last week in Tampa where he did not mention the exit policy from Afghanistan. “This November, you get to decide the future of the Afghanistan war. Governor Romney had nothing to say about Afghanistan last week. Yes, he hasn’t offered a plan for the 33,000 troops who will have to come home from this war by the end of this month,” he said.

Vice President Joe Biden made same charges against Romney. “Romney thought the decision that the President of the United States — we have 50 allies working with us, NATO and other countries in Afghanistan.

The president organized them, all 50 of them said it’s time to set a date to hand over responsibility to the Afghans and bring our 90,000 troops home. And what did Romney say? He said that was a mistake,” he said in another campaign speech in Wisconsin.

The Romney campaign was quick to respond. “It’s not surprising that a politician who has been wrong about every major foreign policy question over the last 30 years is wrong on every count about Gov. Romney’s strategy to restore America’s leadership role in the world,” it said in a statement about Biden’s remarks.

“President Obama has undermined the pillars of American strength abroad with his failure to get our economy going, his devastating defense cuts, and his shameful failure to defend our values. In no region of the world is our influence greater than it was 4 years ago,” the statement said.
